To Be A Graphic Designer or
Not to Be A Graphic Designer

Being an artist all my life in various stages of different avenues in art related fields. As I was growing up, I knew what I wanted to do was just to be an artist. I love to paint and love to create with my hands. As I was closely nearly graduating from high school. I never thought of being a commercial artist. So I attended the Art Institiute of Pittsburgh.

I learned that graphic design has always been a popular profession. Technology changes every day since I began attending to Art Institute of Pittsburgh back in late 1987. The first blog appears in the 1990s, never have I thought that I be a blogger today.

Back on the subject of graphic design...technology in applied graphics as user-friendly as possible by the use of software platforms that make up the elements to be a graphic or web designer today.
  • Master the most widely used software in graphic designing
    Adobe Photoshop:
is the predominant photo editing and manipulation software on the market. Its uses range from full featured editing of large batches of photos to creating intricate digital paintings and drawings that mimic those done by hand.

    Adobe Illustrator:
is a program used by both artists and graphic designers to create vector images. These images will then be used for company logos, promotional uses or even personal work, both in print and digital form

Adobe Indesign: is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, and books. InDesign can also publish content suitable for tablet devices in conjunction with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite.

    Adobe Acrobat:
is a family of application software and Web services developed by Adobe Systems to view, create, manipulate, print and manage files in Portable Document Format (PDF). The family comprises Acrobat Reader (formerly Adobe Reader), Acrobat (formerly Acrobat Exchange) and Acrobat.com.

    Adobe Dreamweaver:
is a proprietary web development tool developed by Adobe Systems. Dreamweaver was created by Macromedia in 1997, and was maintained by them until Macromedia was acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005. Adobe Dreamweaver is available for macOS and for Windows.
  • Graphic designer with interactive skills or a web developer with design skills. You can learn the basics and then choose a graphic design or web design concentration.
  • You can develop the creative and technical skills to design content for traditional and mobile web devices, including responsive websites, mobile apps, and e-books with a goal in mind for your career path as a graphic designer or web designer or better yet graphic/web designer.
As a graphic designer, in time I learned to become self-taught web designs and web applications developer, search engine marketing and photoshop digital artists to develop a skill set needed to become a professional within the world wide web community.

I learned to prepare myself within a career path as a graphics designer for over 20 years. Alot has changed since I was in school. I needed to keep abreast on world wide web as the technology continue to grow over the course of time. As I continue to get my foot in the door of the graphic design world, from how to land your first job, to finding continued inspiration, to the ins and outs of joining the graphics design community.

Now that I worked in the newspaper business, technology in the newspaper field has drastically changed within the last couple years, faster, productive in a fast pace technology software programs being used in window PC for daily papers but ever growing fast online populations for readers. I have the privilege of knowing the strong foundation needed in the world of graphic design, along with the skills needed to keep up with today and future prospects in a world wide web technologies and social media as well.

So I ask myself a question, was it worth to be a Graphic Designer or Not To Be a Graphic Designer? Only I, can answer that to myself...

There you have it!

Thank you,
Bradley Jimerson

The Three-Part Harmony in Your Logo       "Ba ba ba bum... Mister Sandman (Oooh...) Bring me a dream. Bring me the cutest girl that I've ever seen..." This is the beginning of a classic, harmonized song. Sure, one person can sing this song, and it will sound just fine. But, if a group of three people sings it together, with one singing the low notes, another singing the mid-range, and the third singing the high part, as a chord, then the song takes on more richness and depth. It immediately becomes a more sophisticated sound through the element of harmony. What does singing together have to do with your logo? Just as a harmonized song is made up of a set of three notes, every small business's logo should be made up of three pieces of art: the icon, the font, and the color palette. These three pieces all work together, singing the same basic song, to tell your business's story. In your logo, each of them gives you an opportunity to build...
